We have seen stories of unusual couples of animal friends. Some of these friendships include so-called "natural enemies" like cats and dogs. Of course, all animal lovers know that a deep bond can overcome anything.
At the Wynnewood Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma, the adult lion, Bonedigger, is a friend of a dachshund named Abby.
It is amazing to see the two animals lick each other affectionately and play together. Sometimes, the huge lion rolls so that Abby can "attack" him in jest, like a normal cat and dog.
The background story is that Bonedigger and Abby had grown up together for about six months. At that time, the difference in size was not as pronounced.
What's even more surprising is that Abby is not Bonedigger's only friend. It is partial to all the dachshunds that live in the park. Actually it is quite normal because lions are very social creatures.
All creatures need love and companionship, and I am very grateful for the reflective way in which the people in this sanctuary have had the time and the understanding to do it for both dogs and lion dogs. It is a game made in heaven.
On any given day, it is not uncommon to see the lion being chased by a crowd of small dogs. See how this unusual lion creates an unlikely friendship with these dogs in this fun video of lions with their pets. Meanwhile, humans can not even get along with other humans!
