Anyone who remembers seeing Carol Burnett's show with their relatives every Saturday night remembers what the event was. Make popcorn!
A comic theme that always stands out in our minds is "The family". It was a recurring film in its 11-season variety. This dysfunctional trio, with its exaggerated Southern accents and endless disputes, first appeared in the hit series in 1973. It was an unfortunate favorite for the public that Carol continued her ongoing saga throughout the series.
Just think of the high-pitched "Eunice Higgins" voice, insect eyes, old-fashioned hairstyles, jealous behavior and attention demands and you'll start to smile. Frequent family disputes led to a climate clash in every sketch, in which Eunice took care of her crochety, puchero, "Mama Harper" with silver hair. It's hard to believe that Vicki Lawrence as a mom is actually the youngest member of the cast.
His extravagant obsessions in small towns and slapstick humor have left us all howled and grateful that they were not our own families. In fact, "The Family" was a fan favorite that the sketch expanded into a feature film called Eunice. The film was followed by the television comedy "Mama's Family" by Vicki Lawrence.
In this drawing, "Taking care of the mother", the mother fell to the ground and broke Eunice's leg and Ed's house, and is now her long-term guest in a wheelchair. His recovery could bring Eunice and Ed to the fun farm, as the constant criticism of the mother takes them to the breaking point.
Mother's biggest mistake is to criticize Ed for buying many "Japanese rabbit traps" for his hardware store because he is convinced that an epidemic of "rabbit swarms" is looming. When Ed threatens to break mom's other leg, you won't believe what happens next.
"They go around in circles with love and affection, they apologize, and then they scold, argue and insult," wrote a devoted and delicate fanatic. "So funny for some reason! I love my mother's family! They've seen it for years, they are brilliant comedians and all the characters are so distinctive."
Many fans do not realize that Carol's inspiration for her characterizations in "Family" sketches came from her own family. He returned to his education in Texas and his family's disputes in which they would be insulted and threatened in a minute and apologized to his neighbor.
